Artist Bio
Ann Lenz was born on a Marine base in California in the late 1970’s. She was the daughter of two high school sweethearts who were originally from South Dakota. After years of moving from one military base to another, they decided to return to the Midwest and settle in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Lenz grew up in Sioux Falls and has spent most of her life in the area. Upon completion of high school in 1996, Lenz moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota to pursue studies at Northern State University. After four-and-a-half years she achieved the Bachelors of Arts degree (magna cum laude) with emphasis areas not just in Drawing and Painting, but also in Advertising Design. The following four years Lenz pursued a career as a web and graphics designer for a local telecommunications company while also following her passion for the Arts and teaching at the local community & cultural center. While residing in Aberdeen for a total of seven-and-a-half years she established herself as an artist, designer and a teacher within the community. After pursuing a career in design, she decided to further her education; she applied for and was accepted into the Masters of Fine Arts Program at The University of South Dakota. Lenz graduated with her MFA in Painting in December of 2006. In addition to her studies in Vermillion, she was active in both community and academic activities and participated in numerous art exhibitions. In the Spring Semester 2007 Lenz accepted a position as a Visiting Assistant Professor at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. Lenz currently resides in Kimball, South Dakota with her family while exhibiting her artwork and pursuing a career as a fine artist and freelance designer.
